Battle of the Brains

The 2017 Battle of the Brains has successfully concluded with an exciting evening hosted by CTV News’ Patricia Lovett-Reid at the Bram & Bluma Appel Salon! Thank you to everyone who came out to support Daytrippers and were able to meet some of the students whose lives have been impacted by your generosity.

“Levelling the playing field in terms of providing opportunities for fieldtrips and experiential learning is one of the key components to providing an equitable education for children in challenging circumstances.  From the hands-on lesson at the Ontario Science Centre which cannot be readily replicated in the classroom to the wonder of that magical moment in quality theatre and music productions, there is no better way to set the context, provide the inspiration, activate critical thinking skills and deeper learning!”

– Janice Kent, Principal at Pauline Johnson

At Daytrippers, our motto is “no child left behind”. We believe that education takes place in many places and many forms. School field trips are a perfect example.

However, for many children across Canada, the cost of a trip (often no more than $10) is simply not feasible. The cost of a day trip can be a child’s lunch money for the week, and no parent should have to choose between feeding or educating their child.

Consider this, a child’s visit to the ROM may ignite the passion of a great historian, and the next scientist to cure our energy crisis could be inspired at the Science Center. Trips to the CN Tower inspire architecture & engineering, and visits to the Aga Khan Museum introduce children to international relations, culture and political & economic variances across the globe.

That’s pretty cool!

Since our inception in 2001, we have helped facilitate over 150,000 trips across Canada, ensuring that every child gets the opportunity to learn, and become inspired. Along with those mentioned above, we have helped facilitate trips to places such as the Sparks Center (Calgary, AL), Science World (Vancouver, BC), the Art Gallery of AlbertaFort Langley National Historic Site, the Vancouver Symphony OrchestraShubenacadie Wildlife Park (Nova Scotia), the Royal Winter Fair (Toronto, ON), and the AGO (Toronto, ON).

Once a year, we host our gala event, the Battle of the Brains! This interactive trivia contest with business and civic leaders across Canada is conducted over a gourmet meal, black tie and cocktails. If the cause is not enough to motivate you, the event will. It’s consistently quoted as one of the funniest charity nights of the year. Each year the battle is fierce, as teams vie for the coveted Battle Cup and bragging rights for the year!
